Curator’s comments

The Vegetableman created from Hogmawg. Hogmawg is Aminah's term for the mixture of mud, pig grease, dyes, sticks, glue, and lime that she uses in both two- and three- dimensional work.

Artist’s comments

"The Vegetableman goes through the street with his horse and cart and bells. People stop him to buy or to barter--a bag of potatoes or a pound of greems, maybe, for a tray of homemade sweet soap. He's got a plaid bow tie; a long dirt apron; a bright red shirt; and big buckets of apples. The vegetableman loves the people on the street, and the people on the street love him."

(Aminah Robinson, A Street Called Home, Harcourt Brace and Company: San Diego, 1997.)
