Curator’s comments

"The hundreds of people who inhabited the Blackberry Patch and Poindexter Village and who are represented in Robinson's work include the characters in the stories handed down to Robinson by her uncle Alvin. The vast majority of the figures are the men, women, and children who lived in the community and engaged in ordinary, everyday activities such as washing and ironing clothes and participating in community celebrations, including the one held every fall to commemorate the anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation." (Symphonic Poem p. 100)
