Curator’s comments

Aminah participated in a six-week study trip to Africa in 1979. The trip inspired a body of work consisting of hundreds of pieces that Robinson called Afrikan Pilgrimage. the Extended Family. This piece is one of Aminah's Hogmawg sculptures, a term she uses to describe the mixture of mud, pig grease, dyes, sticks, glue, and lime that she uses in both two- and three- dimensional work.
